Second-longest active consecutive games streak ends

WASHINGTON (AFP) — What had been the second-longest active streak of consecutive Major League Baseball games played was halted here Sunday when Washington Nationals third baseman Ryan Zimmerman did not take the field.

Zimmerman had appeared in 205 games in a row, trailing only Atlanta Braves outfielder Jeff Francoeur's current run of 356 in a row, but sat out in Washington's 5-2 victory over Pittsburgh.

Zimmerman, 23, is batting .217 with three home runs and only 14 runs batted in.

Aaron Boone, who replaced Zimmerman in the Nationals' lineup, smacked a solo homer in the fourth inning for Washington, which improved to 14-18
