Ex-football star Gazza back in hospital

LONDON (AFP) — Troubled former England football star Paul Gascoigne was back in hospital on Monday after police were called to a disturbance at a luxury London hotel.

A police spokeswoman confirmed officers were called to a four-star hotel in Knightsbridge on Sunday afternoon, and a man had gone to hospital voluntarily.

No crime was committed, she added, so the matter was no longer one for the police.

Gascoigne has struggled with alcoholism and depression since retiring from the game in 2004, and in February he was detained under the Mental Health Act after police were called to a hotel in Newcastle, northeast England, following reports he was acting erratically.
