Clemens issues apology for personal 'mistakes'

HOUSTON, Texas (AFP) — Baseball star Roger Clemens apologized to his family and his fans after a week of revelations about extra-marital relationships, also denying an improper relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

In a statement reported Monday by the Houston Chronicle, Clemens made his first public comments since the New York Daily News reported last week that the Major League Baseball pitcher had affairs with country singer Mindy McCready and the ex-wife of golf star John Daly.

"Even though these articles contain many false accusations and mistakes, I need to say that I have made mistakes in my personal life for which I am sorry," Clemens said.
