BERLIN (AFP) — Former world number one Amelie Mauresmo, winner of the WTA Berlin tournament in 2001 and 2004, will not be able to repeat her success this year after withdrawing due to a rib injury.
The 28-year-old suffered a strain to her intercoastal muscles and was forced to withdraw from the German Open on Monday afternoon.
Mauresmo, currently ranked 19 in the world, was scheduled to play her first round match against compatriot Aravane Rezai.
Rezai will now play Akgul Amanuradova from Uzbekistan on Tuesday.
