Actor Judy Davis sues tabloid over child-hater report

SYDNEY (AFP) — Hollywood star Judy Davis has accused a Sydney tabloid of depicting her as a child-hater for suggesting that a soccer park be moved because residents could be hit by stray balls, reports said Tuesday.
Davis, best known for roles in Woody Allen's "Husbands and Wives" and David Lean's "A Passage to India", is suing the publisher of The Daily Telegraph for defamation over articles which appeared in February 2006.
The 53-year-old said accounts of her appearance at a local council meeting to discuss installing floodlights at an oval near her Sydney home, to allow junior soccer teams to train at night, portrayed her as a child-hater.
"I was dumbfounded really that The Daily Telegraph would do that to me. I couldn't understand why they had done it," she told the New South Wales Supreme Court, according to the Australian Associated Press ...
