ANKARA (AFP) — A retired Turkish colonel was detained after he cracked a joke about carrying a bomb on a domestic flight Tuesday, the Anatolia news agency reported.
The 65-year-old man, annoyed at not being allowed to put a water bottle in the overhead lockers, asked the flight attendant: "Where shall I put the bomb then?"
The plane, which was about to take off from the southern city of Adana for Izmir, in the west, returned to the terminal, was evacuated and all passengers and luggage underwent fresh security checks, Anatolia reported.
"I didn't think they'd take me seriously," the man told police.
