NHL Avalanche sweeps away Quenneville

DENVER, Colorado (AFP) — Joel Quenneville will not return as coach of the Colorado Avalanche after the team was swept in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the National Hockey League team announced Friday.

Quenneville went 131-92 with 23 regulation draws in three seasons as coach of the Avalanche, twice reaching the playoffs. He contract expires next month and will not be renewed.

"After meeting with Joel, we mutually agreed that the best decision for both parties involved is to go separate ways," Avalanche general manager Francois Giguere said.

The Avalanche went 44-31-7 to finish sixth in the Western Conference and eliminated third seed Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs before being blasted in round teo by the Detroit Red Wings...
