PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (AFP) — Milwaukee Brewers closer Eric Gagne will sit out indefinitely after doctors diagnosed tendinits in his shoulder, the Major League Baseball team said Thursday.

Gagne left Tuesday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates and on Wednesday consulted team doctor William Raasch, who advised him to return to Milwaukee.

Gagne, a former National League Cy Young award winner, was given a cortisone shot in his shoulder and is to rejoin his teammates before Friday's game at Washington. He will not throw for the next three days.

"It's all in the front of the shoulder," Gagne told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "Now we're just waiting to see. It's just one of those things - you usually warm up and it goes away, but it was getting tighter and tighter."
