Franzen cleared to practice with Red Wings

DETROIT, Michigan (AFP) — Johan Franzen, the National Hockey League playoffs leading scorer who has been sidelined by concussion, was cleared to practice with the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, two days before they open the Stanley Cup Finals.

Red Wings general Manager Ken Holland said Franzen would practice on Friday. On Saturday, Detroit host Eastern Conference champion Pittsburgh Penguins in game one of the NHL's best-of-seven championship series.

Franzen, who leads the NHL this postseason with 12 goals, hasn't played since game one of the Western Conference finals against the Dallas Stars.

But the 28-year-old Swede has been free of headaches for several days, prompting the decision to allow him to participate in practice.
