Energy group Suez ends takeover talks with British Energy
0 Comments | AFP, May, 2008
LONDON (AFP) — French energy group Suez said on Friday that it had ended talks with British Energy about buying the partly-privatised group, adding that its priority was merging with state gas group GDF.
"As previously indicated, the completion of the merger with Gaz de France remains Suez's key priority," said a statement released to the London Stock Exchange.
"Accordingly, Suez confirms that, in its discussions regarding the future development of the nuclear energy sector in the UK, those relating to a potential offer for British Energy have now ceased."
Press reports suggest that British Energy is in talks with a number of suitors, including French state electricity group EDF, as Britain prepares major new atomic energy investment.
