Arab League chief in Syria for Lebanon talks

BEIRUT (AFP) — Arab League chief Amr Mussa headed to Damascus on Monday for talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on the Doha accord that ended the Lebanese political crisis, a league official told AFP.
"Syria is the president of the Arab Summit and Mussa is going to Damascus to discuss the details and implementation of the Doha accord with Syrian officials," the official said on condition of anonymity.
Mussa was in Beirut for Sunday's election in parliament of Michel Sleiman as the new president of Lebanon.
Assad called Sleiman to congratulate him on his election and assured him that Syria would be "by Lebanon's side," the official Syrian news agency SANA reported on Sunday.
