Pistorius to compete in Netherlands meeting

EMMELOORD, The Netherlands (AFP) — Double amputee Oscar Pistorius, who aims to compete against able-bodied athletes at the Beijing Olympics, will take part in a 400m Paralympic qualifying race here Saturday.

The 21-year-old South African, who runs on specially adapted carbon fibre blades, will also compete at a similar meeting in the northern town of Stadskanaal, race organisers said Wednesday.

Paralympic gold medalist Pistorius on Tuesday refused an invitation to run in next month's Berlin Golden League meeting that would have pitted him against America's Olympic and world champion Jeremy Wariner - saying he wanted to concentrate on preparations for the season.
