CHARLESTON, South Carolina (AFP) — World number one Lorena Ochoa pulled out of the USLPGA's Ginn Tribute tournament due to an illness in her family.

Ochoa said Wednesday she was leaving for Mexico so she could spend time with her sick uncle.

"I am very sorry to have to withdraw, but my uncle is very ill," said Ochoa. "I need to be with my uncle and my family right now."

Ochoa has won six of the nine tournaments she has entered this season, including the two million dollar Sybase Classic earlier this month.

The 26-year-old Ochoa finished second at the Ginn Tribute last season, losing in a playoff to Nicole Castrale.

This 2.6 million dollar event, hosted by Annika Sorenstam, begins Thursday morning at RiverTowne Country Club.
