Tate Liverpool unveils Klimt show

LIVERPOOL (AFP) — The Tate Liverpool museum of modern art unveils a new exhibition of work by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt Friday, the latest event to mark the city's title of European Capital of Culture 2008.

Klimt (1862-1918) was both founder and leader of the Viennese Secession group of artists and artisans. His work features shimmering gold and coloured decoration, often in an erotic style.

Christoph Grunenberg, director of Tate Liverpool in northwest England, said: "It's going to be our most important show ever. We are expecting at least 100,000 visitors.
