Probe starts into Universal Studios inferno
0 Comments | AFP, June, 2008
LOS ANGELES (AFP) — Investigators Monday were combing through the ruins of famous sets at Hollywood's Universal Studios gutted by a huge blaze in a search for clues as to how the inferno started.
The Universal Studios theme park was reopening for business after the huge fire which at its height was tackled by some 400 firefighters, backed by water-bombing planes.
In a drama worthy of one of the studio's own box-office melting scripts, the blaze, which broke out before dawn, swept through some its most famous sets and tourist attractions such as the emblematic town square from "Back to the Future."
Nine firefighters and a sheriff's deputy were slightly injured as they battled the fire in a narrow alley fashioned to look like New York City.
