ADB to lend 100 million dollars to China for energy programme

MANILA (AFP) — The Manila-based Asian Development Bank said on Thursday it would lend 100 million dollars to China to bring energy-efficient technology to the industrialised province of Guangdong.
The long-term, low-cost loan to the Guangdong provincial government will be used to provide credit to major energy consumers for projects to fit existing plants and buildings with energy-efficient technology.
This would include measures "as simple as changing the type of lighting, using a more efficient motor or installing an energy-efficient air-conditioning system," ADB financial specialist Siew Fing Wong was quoted as saying.
The cumulative effects of these small measures are "expected to yield annual energy savings of 188 gigawatt-hours," the ADB said,...
