Yankees welcome Posada back to lineup

NEW YORK (AFP) — Catcher Jorge Posada, sidelined for more than five weeks by a sore right shoulder, returned to the New York Yankees' lineup Thursday.

Posada went 1-for-3 with a walk in the Yankees' dramatic 9-8 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

In his first at-bat, in the second inning, he singled, then was lifted for a pinch runner after walking in the eighth.

The five-time All-Star hadn't played in a game for the Yankees since April 26 thanks to an ailing shoulder that limited his throwing and forced him to the disabled list for the first time in his career.

"It feels like early in spring training, where there (were) no problems," Posada said prior to Thursday's game. "I'm looking forward to getting started again."
