KIEV (AFP) — Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's parliamentary coalition has lost its majority after the defection of two deputies, the Interfax news agency reported Friday.

"A kind of treason has taken place. Two deputies have handed their requests" to leave the coalition to the parliament administration, said the speaker of parliament, Arseni Yatsenyuk.

Prior to the announcement the ruling coalition held 227 seats, just one more than required for a majority.
