Zimbabwe police nab opposition MP amid crackdown

HARARE (AFP) — Police in Zimbabwe on Saturday arrested an opposition MP for the second time in a week after the authorities forced presidential candidate Morgan Tsvangirai to halt campaigning ahead of a June 27 run-off against President Robert Mugabe.

Eric Matinenga has been charged with "incitement to public violence" in the same case for which he was cleared just two days ago, said police spokesman Wayne Bvudzijena.

Matinenga was picked up at his home Saturday morning by three officers, opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) spokesman Nelson Chamisa said earlier Saturday.

"Our member of parliament for Buhera west, Advocate Eric Matinenga, was taken away this morning by three men who claimed to be policemen," he said.
