Last day dawns for Clinton campaign

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Hillary Clinton bids a formal farewell to her historic quest to be America's first woman president Saturday, and will endorse the Democratic Party's new champion, White House nominee Barack Obama.

Clinton, once seen as the inevitable nominee, will bid a painful goodbye at an event in Washington's National Building Museum, after her rival clinched the nomination following the final primaries of a turbulent campaign on Tuesday.

The tenor of her remarks will be closely watched, given that her speech after the South Dakota and Montana primaries was seen by some as ungracious, after she failed to immediately throw her support behind Obama .
