Bears' Benson arrested on drunk driving charge

AUSTIN, Texas (AFP) — Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson was arrested Saturday morning and charged with drunken driving, police said.

The fourth-year National Football League player was stopped for a traffic violation in downtown Austin and arrested after refusing breathalyzer and blood tests.

He was taken to jail, and released after posting bond. The incident came just a month after Benson was arrested - also in Austin - on charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest.

Those cases - both misdemeanors - are pending. However, the fourth-year running back has vehemently disputed those charges, claiming he was not drunk and did not resist as river police officers said. He is to appear in court on those charges on June 30.
