Bangladeshi doctors remove 42kg tumour: surgeon

DHAKA (AFP) — Surgeons at Bangladesh's biggest hospital have removed a giant 42-kilogram (92-pound) tumour from a 40-year-old man's abdomen, a doctor said Wednesday.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital surgeon Omar Ali told AFP he understood the tumour to be the largest removed by medical staff in the country.
He said the man, a rickshaw puller, noticed his stomach growing larger over the past two years but believed the increase in size was caused by water retention.
Eventually he admitted himself to hospital and surgery was performed Tuesday, he said.
"After a three-hour operation, we have removed a 42-kilogram tumour from his abdomen. It is the biggest we have ever seen and we believe it's the biggest in the country's history," Ali said.
