John McCain to speak in Canada

OTTAWA (AFP) — US Republican presidential nominee John McCain will visit Ottawa on June 20 to deliver a speech promoting free trade between the world's two largest trading partners.

A spokeswoman for the Economic Club of Canada, Nicolee Tattersall, told AFP McCain's campaign asked to speak to the business group. "We were approached by them to speak," she said.

It is believed McCain will be the first US presidential candidate to speak in Canada during a US presidential election campaign, according to three US historians consulted by the club, said Tattersall.

Tickets for the luncheon at the historic Fairmont Chateau Laurier Hotel, steps from parliament, are sold out.
