Freed Japanese tourist in Tehran after 8-month ordeal

TEHRAN (AFP) — A Japanese tourist released by kidnappers in southeastern Iran arrived in Tehran on Sunday ahead of his return home after spending eight months in captivity.

Satoshi Nakamura, 23, arrived at Tehran city airport on a flight from the southeastern city of Zahedan at around 3:00 pm (1030 GMT) after his release on Saturday.

Nakamura, wearing a loose short-sleeved white shirt, looked to be in good health after his ordeal as he was swiftly ushered through the crowds of waiting media by Japanese officials.

He was abducted on October 8 in a restive region of southeast Iran bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan as he headed from his hotel for the ancient mud-built citadel of Bam.
