'Incredible Hulk' casts green glow over box office

LOS ANGELES (AFP) — "The Incredible Hulk" outmuscled animated children's film "Kung Fu Panda" to top the North American box office on its opening weekend, according to industry estimates Sunday.

Actor-writer Edward Norton's version of the not-so-jolly green giant, a follow-up to the 2003 movie "Hulk," has reeled in 54.5 million dollars since its debut Friday, box-office tracker Exhibitor Relations said.

The adventures of Po, a kindly panda forced to become a martial-arts master to save his jungle from leopard villains, slipped to second place with a weekend take of 34.3 million dollars.

In third place was "The Happening," the latest offering from acclaimed mystery-horror director M. Night Shyamalan, which grossed 30.5 million on its debut weekend.
