Van Basten fumes over Basel's Dutch grass

BASEL, Switzerland (AFP) — Holland coach Marco van Basten has expressed concern after Euro 2008 organisers decided to change the turf at Basel's St Jakob-Park stadium three days before the first of two quarter-finals due to take place there.

UEFA decided to act after heavy rainfall rendered the pitch akin to a soggy potato patch and the surface is being replaced with new turf brought in from Holland.

Portugal will face Germany, Austria or Poland in the first quarter-final on Thursday while van Basten's Holland are due to face either Sweden or Russia on Saturday.
