Fourth meeting of US-Russian initiative against nuclear terrorism

MADRID (AFP) — Representatives of 55 countries gathered in Madrid Tuesday as part of the US-Russian initiative to fight nuclear terrorism, the Spanish government said.

Among those attending the closed-door meeting were Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak and US Undersecretary of State for Arms Control John Rood, as well as representatives of the European Union and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The meeting was the fourth of its kind since the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism was founded in 2006 by US President George W. Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin to reinforce control of nuclear facilities and materials in order to prevent terrorist groups from accessing them.
