Russia's Larionov elected to Hall-of-Fame

TORONTO (AFP) — Three-time Stanley Cup winner Igor Larionov heads the list of inductees to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

After winning eight consecutive Russian League championships with CSKA Moscow and Olympic gold medals in 1984 and 1988, Larionov signed with the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League in 1989.

"It is very touching to know that I will be celebrating one of the top accomplishments in my hockey career by being inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame," Larionov said.

Larionov was a member of three Stanley Cup teams in Detroit in 1997, 1998 and 2002.

Former Edmonton Oilers forward Glenn Anderson, junior hockey executive and club owner Ed Chynoweth and referee Ray Scapinello were also elected.
