Puel to take over at Lyon

LYON, France (AFP) — French champions Lyon are set to name Claude Puel as their new manager later Wednesday, club sources said.

The 48-year-old Puel, who was in charge of first division rivals Lille last season, will sign a four-year-contact to take over from Alain Perrin who pulled off a cup and league double but still lost his job as European success eluded the club.

Perrin had been in charge for just one season after being shown the door at Portsmouth in the English Premier League.

"We have been after him (Puel) for a long time," said Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas on Monday as Lille midfielder Jean II Makoun joined the champions.
