Teixeira belts three homers in Braves win over Mariners

ATLANTA, Georgia (AFP) — Mark Teixeira broke out of a slump in a big way Sunday, belting three home runs in the Atlanta Braves' 8-3 victory over the Seattle Mariners.

Tim Hudson pitched seven scoreless innings for the Braves as they claimed the rubber contest in a three-game interleague series.

"It's hard enough to hit one home run," Teixeira said. "I've gone weeks and weeks without hitting one home run. To hit three in a game, a lot of things have to go right for you."

Teixeira's big day at the plate came on the same day that an article appeared in the local newspaper questioning the trade that brought him to the Braves last year.
