Nuggets forward and US Olympian Anthony sentenced to probation

DENVER, Colorado (AFP) — Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of driving while ability impaired and was sentenced to probation and community service on Tuesday.
In exchange for the plea, prosecutors dropped a more serious charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Anthony, who was named to the US men's basketball team for the Beijing Olympics on Monday, also pleaded guilty to failure to stay in a single lane.
A judge ordered him to serve one year of probation, perform 24 hours of community service, and pay 1,000 dollars in fines, fees and court costs.
Anthony was arrested on a suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol on April 14.
