Torres makes solid start to Olympic comeback bid

OMAHA, Nebraska (AFP) — Dara Torres made a solid start to her bid to reach a fifth Olympics at the age of 41 Wednesday, posting the third-quickest time in the women's 100m freestyle heats at the US Olympic swimming trials.

"I was anxious, very nervous," admitted Torres, who won her heat in 54.57sec while multi-event star Katie Hoff, 19, was third in the morning's eighth-fastest time of 54.95.

"I was extremely nervous," Torres said. "When I got up there behind the blocks I took a couple of deep breaths and started to feel better."

Torres, who won 4x100m free relay gold in 1984, 1992 and 2000 -- when her first comeback from retirement saw her win five medals in Sydney -- could put herself in line for a relay spot with a top-six finish in the 100m free here....
