Malaysian, Singaporean scoop top honours at 'Chinese-language Grammys'

TAIPEI (AFP) — Malaysian singer Gary Chaw and Tanya Chua of Singapore scooped top honours Saturday at Taiwan's Golden Melody Awards, dubbed the Chinese-language Grammys.
Chaw saw off favourites Eason Chan and Khalil Fong of Hong Kong as well as Taiwanese rocker Shin to receive the Best Mandarin Male Singer accolade for his album "Super Sunshine."
"My family, my friends and fans, thank you," said an emotional Chaw.
Chua was crowned Best Mandarin Female Singer for the second time for "Goodbye & Hello," the first album she produced that also brought her Best Producer award.
"I didn't expect to receive two awards, they are very big encouragements for me... I want to thank my fans who have given me strength," she said.
