Israel scores massive cocaine bust

JERUSALEM (AFP) — Israeli police on Sunday announced a massive drug bust in which they seized over 100 kilograms (220 pounds) of Colombian cocaine concealed in coffee sacks in the northern port of Haifa.

"During a routine inspection at customs, 104 kilograms of pure cocaine was discovered in sacks of coffee imported from Colombia" and arrested nine Arab Israelis connected to the shipment, police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP.

The cocaine would have had a street value of around 15 million dollars (10 million euros).

The seizure was made in May but police did not release details of it until several weeks later to keep the investigation secret, Rosenfeld said.
