Blair plans first visit to Gaza Strip: UN

GAZA CITY (AFP) — Former British premier Tony Blair, the Middle East peace quartet's envoy, will travel to the Gaza Strip for the first time on Tuesday to discuss humanitarian activities there, a UN official said.

"Unless plans change, Tony Blair will come to Gaza tomorrow to see a humanitarian project for the treatment of waste water," the source said on Monday.

In March 2007, five Palestinians drowned when a sewage holding pond in the northern Gaza Strip overflowed, sending millions of litres of untreated waste into the streets.
