Bush to hold press conference

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President George W. Bush will hold a press conference at 10:20 am (1420 GMT) Tuesday and make an opening statement on steps he has taken to boost the battered US economy, the White House said.

"He will talk about the overall state of the economy," as well as specific steps he has taken to ease election-year economic woes, spokeswoman Dana Perino told reporters.

"The president will talk about steps his administration has taken to stabilize the housing and financial markets," she said, amid fears linked to a crisis of confidence in the US banking sector
