NHL Ducks extend Carlyle's coaching contract

ANAHEIM, California (AFP) — Randy Carlyle signed a two-year contract extension here on Wednesday to remain coach of the Anaheim Ducks through the 2010-2011 National Hockey League season, the team announced.

Carlyle has gone 138-74 with 34 drawn after regulation in three seasons with the Ducks, whom he coached to the 2007 Stanley Cup title. He has guided the club into the playoffs in all three seasons behind the Anaheim bench.

The Ducks went 47-27-8 last season but were ousted by Dallas in the first round of the playoffs.

"We fell short of our goal last year, and it's time for us to respond," Carlyle said.
