May-Treanor seeks beach volley repeat after milestones

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Whether she is smashing records or taking Olympic gold, it's just another day at the beach for Misty May-Treanor.

May-Treanor and partner Kerri Walsh won the beach volleyball crown at the 2004 Olympics and the US duo will defend the title at Beijing after a record-shattering run that made history on July 13 at Chicago.

May-Treanor became the first woman to reach 100 career tournament victories when she and Walsh won the AVP Chicago Open, making her the fastest of only five players overall to reach the mark, doing so after only 153 events.

The reigning Olympic champions left Chicago having stretched their record for tournament titles in a row to 16 and their mark for consecutive match wins to 90, breaking their own mark from the 2003-2004...
