Endesa tipped to take share in Irish utility: report

MADRID (AFP) — Spain's electricity utility Endesa is to take a 20 percent share in Ireland's Electricity Supply Board (ESB) for around 450 million euros, the Spanish economic daily Expansion said Saturday.

Giving no sources, Expansion said Endesa's share was part of the privatisation of Ireland's leading electricity supply board.

The paper also predicted that Endesa would set up a new Greek power company, Hellas, with a 51 percent holding in association with Greek partners.

It said Endesa was seeking new activities in Europe following its takeover last year by Italy's Enel and Spanish construction firm Acciona, after Germany's EON dropped out of a lengthy battle.
