Blue Jays lose pitcher McGowan for season

TORONTO (AFP) — Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Dustin McGowan will miss the remainder of the Major League Baseball season to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his sore right shoulder, the team announced Saturday.
An operation to repair the 26-year-old hurler's injury will be performed Thursday in Cincinnati, Ohio. McGowan's rotator cuff will also be examined in the surgery.
McGowan was diagnosed with a partial tear in his rotator cuff last season but continued to pitch this season, making 19 starts but not having taken the mound since July 9 because of soreness in the shoulder.
McGowan has a 6-7 record with a 4.37 earned-run average and 85 strikeouts over 111 1/3 innings.
