NY girl survives 15-storey chimney plunge

NEW YORK (AFP) — New Yorkers talked of a miracle Friday after a 12-year-old girl survived a 15-story chimney plunge.
The girl had been playing on the roof area of her 13-story apartment building, an artists' colony in Manhattan's trendy West Village neighborhood, when she decided to climb a steel ladder up the side of the two-story stack.
Somehow she tumbled in.
Residents found her at the bottom, not only alive, but with nothing more serious than a dislocated hip, according to NY1 television news Friday. The New York Post reported she broke both legs.
"She was all sooty..., but she was alive," the building's superintendent told NY1.
"I'm glad she survived. That's a miracle," a female neighbor said. "God must have been with her."
