Rice looks to improved US-Libya ties

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Friday that she looked forward to further improvements in ties with Libya after Congress passed legislation paving the way for Tripoli to compensate US terrorism victims.
Both houses of Congress on Thursday passed legislation setting up a fund for Libya to compensate US victims of Libyan-backed terrorism and granting Libya immunity from terrorism-related lawsuits once that compensation has been paid, US lawmakers said.
"Yesterday, Congress passed important legislation that will further efforts to obtain fair compensation for American citizens in their claims against the Libyan government," Rice said in a statement.
