Obama pumps up his tire row with McCain

WASHINGTON (AFP) — Barack Obama Wednesday ridiculed his White House foe John McCain for touting the very same humdrum ways to save energy that the Republican's campaign has used to scornfully attack the Democrat.

Addressing a "town hall" meeting in Indiana, the Democratic senator noted that McCain now agreed with him in recommending that drivers keep their car tires properly inflated as a way to cut gasoline consumption.

McCain, whose campaign has been handing out tire gauges to mockingly sum up Obama's energy policy, issued the same advice as the Democrat late Tuesday during a question-and-answer session with voters conducted by telephone.
