BEIJING (AFP) — World welterweight champion Demetrius Andrade stormed into the quarter-finals of the Olympic boxing tournament here Thursday after doing his best to follow advice from American team-mate Rau'shee Warren.

Andrade overpowered Russia's Andrey Balanov 14-3 after Warren, tipped for the flyweight gold medal but dramatically beaten 9-8 in a first round clash by South Korea's Lee Ok-Sung on Tuesday, when he stopped throwing punches in the mistaken belief he was leading, told him to "box your ass off".

Andrade admitted afterwards: "I feel a lot of pressure but I can't do easy cheap punches. I worked on my strength and conditioning, I've got to picky my punches."
