Jordan king visits Iraqi parliament speaker in hospital

AMMAN (AFP) — Jordan's King Abdullah II on Thursday visited Iraqi parliament speaker Mahmud Mashhadani, who is currently in a military hospital in Amman after suffering heart problems.

"The king visited Mashhadani at Al Hussein Medical Centre and was assured of his health condition," a palace statement said, adding the pair discussed the king's trip to Iraq on Monday -- the first visit to the war-torn country by an Arab head of state since the 2003 US-led invasion.

An Iraqi embassy official told AFP that Mashhadani, who was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday for tests, "was supposed to undergo a heart catheterisation."
