Rice may skip Olympics closing

WASHINGTON (AFP) — US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice may not attend the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics due to the Georgia-Russia conflict, a US official said Thursday.

"Georgia is a priority right now, she's got Georgia on her mind," said the senior State Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"I mean it's quite possible that she may not make that trip but I don't want to say that it is not going to happen."

The US top diplomat flew into France Thursday for talks with President Nicolas Sarkozy, who brokered a fragile six-point ceasefire to end the Caucasus conflict, before heading Friday for crisis talks with Georgia's leaders in Tbilisi.
