America-Cuba baseball row overshadows four gold run

BEIJING (AFP) — The United States got their Olympic campaign back on track on Friday, but their four-gold medal rally was overshadowed by accusations of targeted violence in a highly-charged baseball clash against old foes Cuba.

After going through Thursday without a gold, the US collected four in the morning session, three of which came in the pool.

Michael Phelps won his sixth of the Games, accompanied by a sixth world record, in the 200m medley, Ryan Lochte clinched the 200m backstroke, also in a new world best before Rebecca Soni, who underwent heart surgery in 2006, claimed a new world record in the final of the women's 200m breaststroke.

America's fourth gold came courtesy of Nastia Liukin who won the women's gymnastics individual all-round title....
