Russian president signs Georgia peace plan: Kremlin

MOSCOW (AFP) — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Saturday signed a French-brokered plan to end the fighting in Georgia, a Kremlin spokeswoman told AFP.
"President Medvedev informed members of the security council of the Russian Federation that he had signed the document on principles" for resolving the conflict, said spokeswoman Natalya Timakova.
She said Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov would shortly be announcing details of the final version of the plan, which was first drawn up during mediation by Sarkozy.
On Friday, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili signed the plan after US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice flew to the Georgian capital to make final clarifications.
