Mashhadani undergoes 'successful' surgery in Jordan: embassy

AMMAN (AFP) — Iraq's parliament speaker Mahmud Mashhadani, who was hospitalised in Jordan's capital with heart problems, has undergone "successful" surgery at a military hospital, an Iraqi embassy official said on Sunday.

"The surgery at Al-Hussein Medical Centre on Saturday was successful. Mashhadani is in a stable condition now," the official told AFP, declining to give further details.

On Thursday, another Iraqi embassy official said Mashhadani, who on Tuesday was admitted to the hospital in the Jordanian capital for tests, would likely undergo a heart catheterisation.

Jordan's King Abdullah II visited the parliament speaker at the hospital and was "assured" on his health condition before the operation.
