French beekeeper 'in coma' after being stung

BREST, France (AFP) — A 58-year-old woman was in a coma after being stung by about 100 bees in Kernevel in the western French region of Brittany, emergency services were quoted as saying Wednesday.
The woman was attacked on Tuesday when she went to collect honey from her hives, according to Ouest-France newspaper.
"The harvesting period is a critical one as one risks disturbing the bees. With the current spell of bad weather, the bees are resting in their hives and guarding their reserves instead of gathering pollen," Valerie Tygreat, a local beekeeper, told AFP.
"One should avoid going near hives at this time."
